Job Summary

The Academic Advisor will report to the Dean of the School of Science and Technology (SST). The Academic Advisor will support the Departments in academic advising, assist with transfer and post-bac students, and monitor student progress toward graduation within SST. The Academic Advisor may also be called upon to conduct queries for data related to SST academic programs related to retention, progression, and graduation. The Academic Advisor will maintain familiarity with GGC academic policies and the various program requirements in the SST in order to effectively support faculty and department chairs in their advising and mentoring roles.

Responsibilities

Advise students regarding academic programs, curricula, course selection, and prerequisite requirements.
Monitor and track retention, progression and graduation of all students with assigned population.
Provide assistance to students in the areas of admission requirements, registration, academic warning, probation and suspension, and other academic policies and procedures.
Assist STEM students in course registration, including verifying course prerequisites and requirements.
Assist SST faculty and staff who are involved in academic advising.
Represent the SST at Grizzly Orientation, Preview Days, and other School related events.
Participate in individual professional development, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in related field
Four years of experience working with college students or adolescents in an academic counseling capacity

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree
Experience with Banner and/or DegreeWorks or similar student information systems

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Accuracy in evaluating and articulating information concerning students to faculty, administration, and staff, and in interpreting institutional rules, regulations, policies, and procedures is essential.
Excellent customer service skills.
Attention to detail, confidentiality, and professionalism.
